How to Review Your Marketplace Renewal

What to check when existing coverage rolls into a new plan year.

Marketplace coverage often needs attention each year. Premiums, plan designs, insurer participation, provider networks, and prescription formularies can change. Even if your plan renews, the terms or price may not be identical to last year.

Start with the renewal notice

Review messages from the Marketplace and your insurer. Confirm whether the plan is continuing, whether you need to select a different option, what deadline applies, and what the new monthly premium and cost-sharing will be.

Update your application

Review household information, expected income, access to other coverage, and other details the Marketplace asks you to verify. If you receive financial assistance, outdated information can affect the estimate and later tax reconciliation.

Compare before accepting

Check provider networks, prescription coverage, deductible, copays, coinsurance, and out-of-pocket maximum. Confirm the coverage start date and whether you need to pay a first premium directly to the insurer.
